It’s with a heavy heart (and a whole lot of love) that we say goodbye to one of Skinny Boy’s biggest personalities—the one and only Gracey 💔💫

Gracey is off to chase her “adult job” (whatever that means 😭), and while we’re so proud of her, we’re also in absolute denial. How do we even put into words the energy, the chaos, and the pure Gracey-ness that made Skinny's what it is?

She wasn’t just a barista; she was the vibe. The hype girl. The first to laugh at herself and the first to check in on everyone else. Gracey could sense if you weren’t feeling your best from a mile away—and would either offer a chat, a coffee, or just some pure unfiltered Gracey nonsense to make you laugh.

But let’s be real—Gracey’s true passion? Germ avoidance. A self-proclaimed hypochondriac, she was never without her hand sanitizer, always on high alert with the classic:
❓ “Are you sick?”
❓ “Do you think this is a rash?”
❓ “Am I getting sick?!”

Despite her very dramatic germ paranoia, she had the most contagious smile in the biz. A customer service queen and an absolute icon on the coffee machine, she made every single person who walked through the doors feel welcome.

Gracey, you’re irreplaceable. Skinnys won’t be the same without your energy, your kindness, and your endless ability to make us all laugh. We love you, we’re so grateful for all the memories, and we know you’re going to absolutely smash it in this next chapter.

New here? Well, let me fill you in!

In 2022, after years as paramedics, Emma and I needed a change. COVID had taken its toll, and we craved something different. So, in a moment of pure madness (or brilliance?), we decided to lease the old milk bar down the road—once Alex’s Milk Bar—and turn it into a café.

We had zero hospo experience. No idea what we were doing. But with the help of friends, family, and sheer determination, we transformed that old space into Tomboys in just six weeks. It was the most stressful time of our lives—we were also raising our 1-year-old son—but we did it.

The name Tomboys came from me owning the phrase growing up, turning into a positive noun and embracing it. It was short, catchy, and felt right. Our focus was simple: good coffee, takeaway food, and a space we could call our own. But things evolved. The menu grew, dine-in became a thing, and somehow, we built more than a café—we built a community.

Our first day was a disaster—no internet, a line out the door, and immediate regret (jks). But our amazing staff had our backs. Our baristas led the way, taught us how to make coffee, and told us what to order. Without them, we wouldn’t have survived those early days.

Looking back, it’s been a rollercoaster. There were tough moments, but mostly? It’s been incredible. The community embraced us, regulars became friends, and Tomboys became more than just a business—it became home.

So thank you. To every single person who has walked through our doors, to those who return daily, and to the people who have made this journey so special. We love you.
